DIGEST OF INTRODUCED BILL


Plumbing consumer safety matters. Provides that: (1) whenever a plumbing inspector (inspector) conducts an inspection of a construction, alteration, or repair of a building or improvements, the inspector shall verify at each point of inspection that each person acting as a plumbing contractor or journeyman plumber holds a valid plumbing license; (2) if the inspector submits a report to the division of fire and building safety, the report must indicate whether the plumbing was performed by a licensed plumbing contractor or licensed journeyman plumber; and (3) if the report to the division indicates that plumbing was not performed by a licensed plumbing contractor or licensed journeyman plumber, the division shall notify the Indiana plumbing commission of the performance of the plumbing by someone other than a licensed plumbing contractor or licensed journeyman plumber. Requires a county, municipality, or township (unit) that issues a permit for the repair, alteration, or construction of a building or improvements to: (1) require compliance with the licensing requirements for plumbing contractors and journeyman plumbers; and (2) notify the plumbing commission if the unit has reason to believe that plumbing was not performed by a licensed plumbing contractor or licensed journeyman plumber.
